10-07-2022: Holcim invested in COBOD
COBOD is a leading company specializing in 3D concrete printing
On October 7, 2022, Holcim announced its investment in COBOD International, a leader in 3D construction printing, to advance world-class 3D printing materials, robotics, and automation together. Holcim joined the group of the company's existing investors, which included General Electric, the Mexican cement company CEMEX, and the PERI group. The Swiss corporation acquired a minority stake in the Danish company.
COBOD had been collaborating with Holcim since 2019, utilizing a wide range of TectorPrint AC materials in the execution of its construction projects. These materials were used in projects such as the wind turbine bases for GE, the world’s first 3D-printed school in Malawi, and Africa's largest 3D-printed housing project in Kenya.
The investment was proof that major construction companies see a significant future in the development of the 3D printing sector using concrete and other building materials. Furthermore, COBOD was one of the few startups in this sector that continuously collaborates with its investors to produce tangible products worldwide on such a large scale and at such a rapid pace.
COBOD (Construction of Buildings on Demand) was founded in 2017, with its roots tracing back to a project undertaken by the company 3D Printhuset. The first BOD printer was used to construct one of the first 3D-printed houses in Europe, located in Copenhagen.
The company offers two machines, BOD2 and BOD3, which can be adapted to different sizes and types of construction projects. The systems are modular, allowing the size of the printers to be adjusted to the specific needs of the project.
