07-22-2020: BCN3D Technologies Secured €2.8 Million Funding from CDTI and Mondragon Group
Thanks to this investment, BCN3D’s total funding increased to €5.5 million.
On July 22, 2020, the Spanish company BCN3D - a leading, European manufacturer of FDM/FFF 3D printers, announced it had secured €2.8 million in funding during the C19 pandemic. The investment was led by CDTI Innovación - Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación (the Spanish National Innovation Agency) and the industrial group Mondragon, through the Innvierte fund managed by Clave Capital. Accurafy4, JME Venture Capital, and Danobatgroup also participated in the funding round. It was the first instance of Mondragon investing in 3D printing technology.
The funds were utilized to develop new hardware features for the workbench segment, based on IDEX technology - a 3D printing system capable of printing with two independent heads. The investment also supported the development of new industrial materials, in collaboration with BASF Forward AM and Mitsubishi Chemical.
BCN3D Technologies is one of the leading Spanish and international manufacturers of desktop 3D printers with FDM/FFF technology, present in over 60 countries. The company's main technological innovation is the IDEX dual extrusion technology, developed at its headquarters in Barcelona, which allows for increased printing efficiency and cost reduction in many industrial sectors. BCN3D's main clients include companies such as Seat, BMW, NASA, Camper, and the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona.
In March 2022, BCN3D developed its own completely original 3D printing technique - VLM (Viscous Lithography Manufacturing). In February of this year, the company spun off a dedicated entity – Supernova, which focuses solely on the development of this technology.
