Atomic Layer of the Day:
This morning (European time), the main subreddit Bambu Lab Community on Reddit featured the first leaked photo of a purported new 3D printer—Bambu Lab H2D. The leaked photo allegedly comes from the printing factory contracted to print Bambu Lab’s labels. Judging by the text on the label, it seems it is intended for the box of the 3D printer.
Without keeping you in suspense any longer—this new 3D printer is rumored to look like this:
Before we proceed, I need to make this statement:
What you’re seeing is a photo from the internet, published on Reddit by an anonymous user.
It may or may not be genuine. Yes, it could be a fake. Yes, it could just be a prototype of a label with a render of an early version of the 3D printer.
While everything described below sounds logical and aligns with earlier (fragmentary) statements from Bambu Lab officials about the new device, it’s still just speculation.
Alright, with that out of the way, let’s dive into the “analysis” of the leaked photo...
The 3D printer is said to be named H2D and is in the Combo version. Personally, I’m not a devoted follower of this brand, so I have no idea what this abbreviation could mean, just as I don’t know what P1P or X1 meant.
It has a new shape, a two-tone enclosure, and a closed build chamber (though the question is how airtight?). On top, it features an AMS system for four spools, which appears to be integrated. At first glance, it doesn’t seem different from the standard version, but we can’t rule out some modifications.
The label specifies the external dimensions of the 3D printer: 492 x 514 x 626 mm. Some Redditor made a quick calculation, so I won’t pretend I worked this out myself:
Ok. so the x1c is 389 × 389 × 457 mm and has a 256mm plate. So ignoring the height, this is a bit over 100 mm bigger per side. So maybe a 350mm-ish build plate, potentially with a bit more height for the build area?
But the most important detail is something else—barely visible in the original photo but revealed after applying some filters in a graphic program:
Two print heads! What’s more, they are positioned at different heights, which may indicate a mechanism for raising and lowering them, similar to those found in Stratasys machines and desktop-grade Ultimaker models (like the U3).
If someone has time, they might follow the Reddit discussion about how the new extruder might work. Various users have dug up graphics from Bambu Lab’s patents and are debating which one will be implemented in the device. I don’t dive that deeply into it because, at this stage, it doesn’t matter.
I still emphasize that we don’t even know if this 3D printer is real.
For now, that’s about it… It’s pretty much what we expected, but let’s remember that what makes Bambu Lab stand out is not just the hardware but its integration with firmware and software. This combination is the secret to the Chinese company’s success.
So, let’s wait until spring to see if this leak turns out to be true.

News & Gossip:
Yesterday, the Nano Dimension Annual General Meeting I mentioned earlier took place. One of the main shareholders, Murchinson, had been threatening to introduce new members to the company’s board to gradually limit the influence of the current CEO, Yoav Stern, with whom they are in deep conflict. Well, they succeeded. Stern lost his position as a director but remains the CEO of the company. However, his compensation (specifically the method of calculation) has been reduced. I planned to write a longer article about this today, but Bambu Lab took precedence.
Regardless of the boardroom battle, Nano Dimension has released Ataru, its new proprietary high-temperature-resistant resin material for use in digital light processing (DLP) 3D printers.
Some large company that loves patents unveiled a 3D printer at Formnext, which allegedly infringes on the patents of a very small company. I came across a lengthy court document describing the case. Once I work through it, I’ll decide whether to bring it to light.
